Hunting Methods Arizona Trophy Pronghorn AntelopeSo you want to hunt trophy pronghorn antelope? Then Arizona is the right place for your next hunt. In Arizona we currently hold two B&C worlds records(tie) and the P&Y Worlds Record! In Arizona, we hunt antelope in the desert, in the sage, in the juniper/cedars and in the pines. We hunt them In elevations from 2500 feet to as high as 7000 feet, it could be hot in the archery season or it could be snowing in the muzzleloader season. The Grand Canyon State holds diverse lands and in most areas there will be at least a few antelope. Our guides search the state of Arizona and locate several bucks in the high 80’s and a couple that will stretch the tape at 90” every year. We are always looking for the new world record trophy and it is our goal to make sure our hunters have the chance to harvest him when we find him. Guide Terry Herndon shot what will be #6 in the world with his muzzleloader in 2004 and he says it would be awesome to see one of the clients of Arizona Outfitter and Guide Service bump him to #7!! The guides at Arizona Outfitter and Guide Service watch these antelope year round. We are out there right now looking for the next world record and with any luck you will be the lucky hunter to harvest that buck. Antelope Hunts - ArcheryOur first hunts start in August when the temperatures can get as high as 90 degrees during the day and as low as 30 degrees at night. There are many styles of hunting during the archery season; spot and stalk, waterholes, and ground blinds. Where we hunt depends on the amount of moisture we have during the monsoon season. If the water is scarce then the water holes will be our best bet—it will depend on the conditions and hunting pressure and that will depend on the guide and what he thinks will work best to get you that trophy of a lifetime. Antelope Hunts - RifleRifle season starts in September when the bucks are in full rut. These bucks will be busy chasing other bucks away from their harems and will make the hunt somewhat easier—easier in the terms that we might get closer than 500 yards for the shot. The rifle season will be mild temperatures and the antelope will be up and about all day. Shots can be as close as 40 yards to 500 yards. Knowing this, the hunter must start practicing long before the season starts. It would be wise to shoot with a bi-pod or shooting sticks in different positions—you never know where that huge back will appear and you must be ready. Antelope Hunts - MuzzleloaderMuzzleloader season is in October when the bucks are still rutting! Muzzleloader hunts are very exciting and you have the same opportunity to harvest a world record as you do when hunting with a rifle. In Arizona, you can use any type of muzzleloader as long as it is a .45 cal. or larger. You can use scopes or you can hunt with open sights—scopes would be our recommendation. Shots can range any where from 40 to 200 yards so you must know your rifle before you begin your hunt. In October the temperature can turn from sunny and warm to cold and winter like with possible snow and sleet. The guides at Arizona Outfitter know antelope and we will get you close to the buck of a lifetime. Arizona Turkey HuntsHere in Arizona we offer Spring Turkey hunting for the famed Merriams Turkey. As seasoned turkey hunters know, the Merriams Turkey is one of the most colorful of all the species of turkeys. The spring hunt is conducted in April and May. Morning temperatures will be cool in the morning warming up to a perfect mid-day temperature. Most of our turkey hunts take place in the Ponderosa Pines in the mountains of Arizona. Daylight will find you listening to longbeards gobbling on roost. Our guides will get you close and that's when the action begins, with calling and maneuvering into position for that shot at a trophy longbeard. When a longbeard gobbles in Arizona it seems to echo for miles. These birds have very little to no pressure on them and the hunt can be fast and furious. It is not uncommon to see multiple toms in a day.
Arizona Elk HuntsAll of our Elk Hunts are conducted in the heart of Monster Bull country, in altitudes that range from 5,000 feet all the way to 10,000 feet. Hunters need to be prepared to adjust to all weather conditions that range from morning temperatures of 30 degrees to mid-day temperatures of 70 degrees. Good physical condition will help you in these altitudes as well as helping you connect with that monster bull. The average bull will score 300 or better in Pope & Young. Elk Hunts - ArcheryOur Trophy Archery Elk Hunts are conducted in September during the heat of the rut! You will be hunting in the heart of monster bull country and the mornings will find you listening to trophy bulls bugling! We hunt a variety of terrain to include mature Ponderosa Pines, Pinion and Juniper, and the vast expanse of open prairie. Our favorite approaches to these bulls are calling and spot and stalking. We use the finest optics to locate monster bulls. During the mid day and afternoons when not calling we will utilize watering holes, tanks, and wallows to ambush those quality bulls. Our goal during archery season is to call that bull into 30 yards or less of our hunters. More times than not you’ll get up close and personal with these animals. You will be hunting in the same units that the current world record was taken, along with other trophy elk units. Accommodations will be clean and comfortable camps and are in the heart of big elk country. Full meals are provided. We will also take care of your trophy once it is harvested. Elk Hunts - MuzzleloaderIf taking a Monster Bull with your smoke poll is your goal, we offer a hunt that is tailored made for you. During the muzzleloader season the bulls are still rutting and taking a truly trophy animal is very common. Our muzzleloading hunts are conducted in the heart of monster bull country that includes Ponderosa Pine, Pinion and Juniper and wide open prairie. With your smoke pole you will have the thrill of hunting archery style but with better range! We try to get our clients within 50 yards or less by calling, spot and stalking, and setting up in strategic ambush sites. Our camps are located in the heart of big bull country and our meals will satisfy the heartiest appetites. Expect cool mornings and very comfortable mid-day temperatures. Elk Hunts – RifleWe offer two types of rifle hunts. We cater to those who are lucky enough to draw an early season rifle tag, and we hunt the later season that finds the big bulls alone trying to put on weight after the rut. Our early tag hunt will find you setting up on Post rut bulls. This hunt is exciting for us as guides to find those big bulls finishing up the rut. It is our chance to get within rifle distance of those monster bulls. We utilize calling, spot and stalking and setting up at strategic ambush sites. If a huge bull is your goal, then this hunt will provide you with the opportunity to reach or exceed that goal. Our late season hunt is slower paced than the beginning of the season. We will spend time glassing up big bulls and then making that stalk of a lifetime. We have done our homework and know just where these big fellows go after the mating season has taken its toll on them. It is not uncommon to find more than one big bull hanging together, making this a hunt that will give you the hunter a chance to pick your trophy. You can expect cold mornings and mild mid-day temperatures. Arizona Javelina HuntsJavelina season starts in January and goes until the end of February. We offer two types of hunts, Archery, and Rifle, which includes Muzzleloader and Handgun. If testing your stalking abilities is what your looking for, then these animals are for you. In the past getting within bow range to take one of the jaw popping critters has been the norm. We use several different methods in locating and taking these animals. Our most popular method is spot and stalk, we also call and have strategic watering holes that we utilize. These animals are a lot of fun to hunt, and the country they live in is magnificent. You can expect cold mornings with mid day temperatures perfect for stalking and sitting. Along with our Javelina hunts we also offer a course deer package in certain hunt units.
